Kinship Caregiving:
Raising a Resilient Family
This curriculum will provide an understanding of how to build a resilient family, prioritize self-care, and manage secondary trauma. Caregivers will learn the hallmarks of a resilient family, the dangers of secondary trauma, including the risk factors and symptoms, and how to prioritize self-care as a buffer against secondary trauma.
Caregivers will leave the support group with a better understanding of the following topics:
- The five hallmarks of a resilient family
- How positive childhood experiences (PCEs) buffer children from the challenges that brought them to a kinship care placement
- The common risk factors and symptoms of secondary traumatic stress
- Why self-care is necessary when raising children impacted by trauma
- Practical strategies to prioritize self-care when raising relative children
