It’s not unusual for foster or adopted children to have significant academic delays. This curriculum takes an in-depth look at the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) process. We discuss the IEP meeting and look at techniques to help parents advocate for their children. And since IEP can vary by state and school district, we provide an opportunity for you to talk about IEPs with a local special education teacher.
Parents will leave the support group with a better understanding of the following topics.
- What does an IEP offer?
- What role can foster parents play in the IEP process?
- What is the difference between an IEP and 504 plan? How can you tell which one is right for your child?
- How can parents survive the IEP meeting and make sure they get their child the services they need?
*This curriculum includes a video, facilitator guide, and handouts.
