While it is challenging to consider that the child you are raising has experienced trauma, it’s also crucial to understand the trauma and how it impacts that child. This curriculum will help grandparents, aunts, uncles, and other caregivers learn what trauma is and how it impacts a child’s behaviors. Caregivers will learn to view a child’s behaviors through the lens of the child’s adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). They will also understand how to identify their own challenging experiences that may impact how they interact with the child in their care. Finally, this curriculum offers specific tools for caregivers to support children to build skills to overcome and cope with early-life trauma.

Relative caregivers will leave this meeting with a better understanding of the following topics.

• The impacts of early childhood trauma on a child’s behavior and development
• Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and generational trauma
• How to reframe a child’s behavior through the lens of earlier trauma and its impacts
• How to support the child to learn coping skills and experience healthy behavior changes
